Grand Prix of South Africa Compak Sporting 2019.

This weekend was an absolutely fabulous way to end off the shooting year - and what a year it has been for Compak SA, with South Africa bringing back two Grand Prix trophies from the 2019 World Cup - Compak Sporting - Galgamácsa, Hungary.

Shooters have travelled around the country and were not disappointed with the ranges set up at clubs that would test their skills and improve there shooting. The year started with Wattlespring Gun Club and after that shooters could visit the Natal and Cape coastal clubs, the Free State, the beautiful Outeniqua - just to name a few. Every month there was a shoot to look forward to.

With a little bit of sadness we look at this last weekend.

The rain on Friday night brought relief.

The Bokke brought home the World Rugby Cup on Saturday.

The Sterkfontein Shooting Academy Gave us our last shoot of the year.

This was a good weekend for all.

With a full entry, we once again congratulate Tim Hubner with a magnificent win 196/200. Very proud of our South African Champion. Deon Steyn 187/200 and Joel Allem 185/200. Well done gents.

We never forget the shooters that make the shoot interesting so please enjoy our video of the weekend. Without you there would be no shoot. Thank you for supporting Compak SA.

Hope you have had a very successful 2019. Make 2020 even better. Keep up with practice - or have a break and enjoy the holidays, but don't forget 25 & 26 January 2020 at Wattlespring Gun Club, that's where it all starts again.

Centurion Compak Trial 2019

South African rugby team played against the all Blacks on Saturday

AND

Staunch South African rugby supporters we all are.

Everything is OKAY
When the Compak Shooters were asked to pitch up an hour earlier so that we could watch the Bokke play the All Blacks there was no hesitation and at 0800 on a glorious summer morning the shooters were on their stands.

Centurion Club as always went out of their way to put on a superb shoot.

Should I Eat This!!!
Teals, Rabbits and loopers you name it, we had it all lined up - 200 clays on eight ranges over two days.

What more do you want as a shooter.

Congratulations to Deon Steyn - High Gun with a grand total of
Handing Out Medals & Making The Speeches
191. Runners up were Brent Smith and Matthew Greef  - boasting with seven 25 straights between them. You can see the results HERE

I Am Not Sure What They Were Discussing.
On Sunday afternoon when all was done and the prizes awarded (and by the way there were some lovely goody bags for the prize winners), new friends were made and old friends caught up on shooting stories since they last saw each other around a beer or two.

All shooters will be putting in some serious practice as we next will meet in Bloemfontein at the Maccauw Clay Target Club on the 19th-20th October for the SA Presidents Cup & and Compak SA Championship 2019. This is an important date and something really good to look forward to. I will have more news about this event soon.

Please add to your diary -  19th - 20th October 2019 - Maccauw Clay Target Club.

2019 World Cup - Compak Sporting - Galgamácsa, Hungary

In the lush forests of Galgamácsa, Hungary more than seven hundred shooters from all corners of the world, gathered for the World Championship Finale World Cup.

This is the culmination of a year of dedicated shooting, with the top Compak shooters of the world competing not only for the Championship title but also for the coveted Grand Prix Trophy.
Tim Hubner
2019 was the year that South Africa lay claim to two of the Grand Prix Trophies.
The Grand Prix works as follows with accumulation of three scores:
  1. Your score for the Grand Prix hosted by your home country - In South Africa's case - The Grand Prix of South Africa
  2. Your score recorded at your Continental Championship - Again in South Africa's case it was the African Championship Africa Cup
  3. Finally your scores are added to the World Cup Finale.
  4. So - The Best Man WINS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best man in the Open Division we are so proud of is Tim Hubner.
Tim won both the Grand Prix of South Africa and the Africa Cup and at the World Cup and was only two clays behind the Championship winner, Charles Bardou from France.
Douw Steyn
This was enough to take top Grand Prix position.
Tim we salute you and loved watching you shoot.

In the Veteran Division it was Douw Steyn that did the honours for South Africa.
Douw won the Veteran Title at the Grand Prix of South Africa, took second place in his Division at the Africa Cup and with a sixth place in the Veteran Division at the World Finale, he claimed the trophy.
Great shooting Douw.

Budapest with the beautiful Danube that lights up at night, the markets and museums, the restaurants and sidewalk cafe will be remembered by South African shooters for a long time to come.
For now I am sure our Compak shooters are planning the next year and setting their sites on keeping these trophies on our shore.
